  • Exercising
  • Having a quiet weekend before test week
  • Going to bed early the night before each test
  • Doing extra work leading up to the week before the tests
  • Ensuring they eat breakfast on the day of the test

The spelling, punctuation and grammar paper can be supported by learning the spelling word list below on this page.

Spelling

Many parents have asked for support in helping their child with their spelling. Here is a list of words which have been split into separate weeks to make it easier to learn. “Little and often” is a good way to become an effective speller.

Spelling List!

The spellings are colour coded to show which words have occurred in SATs spelling tests on one or more occasions! We will not be testing your child formally on these words, but they need to learn them so that they can confidently use them within their written work each day and in the SAT test in May.

Parents: please encourage and support your children to spend time each evening practising and learning the new spelling lists week by week.

Spelling Rules

Below is another list of spellings, which are grouped according to the spelling rule. Different words may appear in the Year 6 SAT spelling test, which follow these rules.
