LOOKING STUKELEY SMART
ALL children must wear smart, black (or dark grey) shoes which are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
Clothing-wise, children need to wear a plain, Stukeley red jumper or cardigan (with or without the school logo) with the alternative being a plain grey or black cardigan. Trousers, shorts, skirts and pinafore dresses should be grey or black. Polo shirts must be white or red with blouses or shirts white only. Hoodies should not be worn in the place of a traditional winter coat or inside during non-PE days. In the summer red and white pinafore dresses can be worn.
With accessories, one pair of stud earrings only are permitted, plain watches may be worn and headbands should be plain in the school colours of red, white, black or grey (with long hair tied back). Accessories that reflect religious beliefs or medical issues may be worn but please discuss this with the class teacher.
PE Uniform
PE uniform is worn on outdoor PE days. This is red, black or grey jumper or hoodie. Red or white t-shirt. A pair of red, black or grey tracksuit bottoms or black shorts. These should have no patterns or images on with no logos. Trainers should be either white or black. Long hair should be tired back during PE, with earrings and watches removed.
Ear-rings and PE
This is now the advice from Cambridgeshire County Council that we have to follow.
Ideally we ask where possible that children do not wear earrings to school, especially on the day they have P.E. to limit possible loss of them, however if earrings are worn, they should be a small stud that the child can take in and out themselves. They only need to be taken out for the P.E session, so for around 50 minutes.
Please see below an extract from Cambridgeshire County Council that advises on why we have to adhere to this.
Can pupils participate in PE if they wear Jewellery?
The National guidance has always been that no jewellery should be worn in PE and that includes swimming and physical activity. It is also not safe to cover ear-rings / studs / sleepers with tape. The reason is both because of the potential tearing of the ear lobe, but also the very slim chance that the post of the ear-ring could damage the neck which is where the brachial nerve is running directly to the brain. There are anecdotal cases of children wearing ear-rings / studs with plasters over being hit by a ball or coming off worse in a collision and having nasty injuries as a consequence.
Parents should be reminded that the school has the higher level duty of care and cannot be put in the situation of looking after their child without exercising that duty of care. It is dictated by national guidance and they need to comply. There have been awful cases involving jewellery in PE and physical activity and we are protecting against that happening.
Our school uniform is supplied by ‘Price & Buckland’ and can be ordered from their website: www.pbuniform-online.co.uk/stukeley
You can purchase school uniform (which doesn’t feature the school logo) from other suppliers for example supermarkets or other clothes shops.
We regularly have second-hand uniform sales. Information regarding these will go out in the Stukeley Standard.
